Ausgehend von kolonialistisch geprägten psychologischen Blickweisen auf die vermeintliche Natur der Kolonialisierten geht der Artikel der Frage nach, was unter dem Geist des Kolonialismus verstanden werden kann, wie er auch in die Psychologie eingegangen und wie er darin immer noch wirksam ist. Es wird dann das Potenzial der Postkolonialen Studien aufgezeigt, die gegenwärtige Psychologie aus ihrem ahistorischen Schlummer zu wecken und sie dazu anzuregen, sich sowohl theoretisch als auch praktisch mit der Entstehung von psychischen Belastungen und Verletzungen zu befassen, in die sie selbst involviert war und involviert ist.

Abstract:
Starting from the observation that psychology and psychological language were influenced by colonialist assumptions of the presumed nature of the colonized, the article explores what one could call the spirit of colonialism as well as how it entered and is still operative within the field of psychology. The article then shows the extent to which insights from postcolonial studies have the potential to awaken contemporary psychology from its ahistorical slumber and encourage it to address, both theoretically and practically, the psychological distress and injury it has itself inflicted on colonized peoples.
